How To Track My Order: I Haven't Received A Tracking Number

If you've recently made a purchase online and are eagerly awaiting its arrival, one of the first things you might want to do is track your order. However, what if you haven’t received a tracking number from the retailer? It can be frustrating, but don't worry—there are several steps you can take to track your order even without a tracking number.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you find your package without the tracking number.

Check Your Order Confirmation Email

When you make an online purchase, the retailer usually sends you an order confirmation email. This email will typically include details such as your order number, items purchased, shipping address, and sometimes, a tracking number. Even if the tracking number isn’t explicitly listed, the order confirmation can help you track your order using other methods.

Look through your email inbox (and your spam folder, just in case) for any messages from the store or courier service. It’s possible that the tracking number was included in a separate email after your order was shipped.

Log Into Your Account

Most online stores provide customers with accounts where you can view all your orders and their status. If you created an account during the checkout process, log in and check your order history.

  • Find the order in question and click on it to view the details.

  • Sometimes, online stores update the order status (e.g., “Shipped”) and include the tracking number here once it's available.

Contact Customer Support

If you’ve checked your email and your account but still can’t find a tracking number, the next best step is to contact customer support. Reach out to the retailer’s customer service team via their help desk, chat service, or phone number.

Provide them with your order number, and explain that you haven’t received a tracking number.

Ask for updates on your order’s status and request the tracking information if available.

Many companies are quick to respond, and they'll be able to assist you in finding your package’s tracking number or provide an update on its shipping status.

Look for Shipping Updates

Some retailers may not send a tracking number right away, especially if the item was shipped via a slower method or through a regional carrier. In such cases, they may update you through email once the package has been dispatched.

Check any email correspondence from the retailer to see if they’ve provided a status update or shipping confirmation. Also, check the estimated delivery date on your order page to estimate when it will arrive. You may not need the tracking number if the delivery date is close.

Visit The Shipping Carrier's Website

If you know the shipping carrier (for example, UPS, FedEx, USPS, or DHL), you may be able to locate your package by searching for it directly on the carrier’s website. Some carriers allow you to track a package using the order number or address, even if you don’t have a tracking number.

For example, with UPS or FedEx, you may be able to enter your delivery address or order number to find out where your package is. Some services also offer features where you can receive notifications about the status of your shipment.

Consider Delays

Sometimes, delays can occur during shipping that may cause your tracking number to arrive late. If your order was placed during a busy shopping period (like Black Friday or the holiday season), it may take longer for the retailer to process and ship your order, and tracking details might not be immediately available.

If this is the case, be patient and keep monitoring your email and order page for updates. If you think your package is lost or delayed, customer support can often offer more insight and assistance.
